Treinadores de Coimbra em destaque no Médio Oriente

The Qatari Futsal National team is currently training (sessions will last till August 5th) under the guide of the portuguese coach Francisco Batista, but this is is just a little piece of the story. The asian nation, after the disappointing ending of the AFC Qualifiers (Qatar could not enter the final stage in Tashkent) and the change on the national team bench (Batista replaced the brazilian Rubio Guerra "Rubinho"), is looking for a golden era of futsal and working hard in order to develop a complete and ambitious project to make our sport shine in the country. Futsal committee president mr. Mohammad Mubarak Al-Mohannadi has great expectations and his plans for the future of the five-a-side world are there to prove it.

Rich calendar
Futsal competitions in Qatar will be characterized by a renewed and increased calendar, starting since October 2nd through the brand new Open Cup, a tournament opened to all clubs in the country. In this period could take part in the Grand Prix in Brazil, still to be confirmed.
Then time will come for the Qatari National league, kick-off scheduled to happen on November 2nd. Finally, in May, the QFA Futsal Cup will close the men season. The national league will register the play-off series introduction for the first ever time: the best 8 clubs will fight for the title (3 games for each challenge: quarter finals, semifinals and final).

Men Competitions
2/10/10 - 26/10/10 -> Open Cup
2/11/10 - 27/04/11 -> Qatari Futsal League
30/4/11 - 21/05/11 -> QFA Futsal Cup

Youth futsal on the horizon
New leagues, season after season, will guarantee the birth of new talents in the country. The first step is the introduction of the Qatar Futsal National League Under 19, which will start on November 9th, ending on April 21st. Same process will characterize, one year later (season 2011/2012), the creation of the Under 17 national league. Both leagues are also seen as good way to improve the level of the recently launched Qatari National Team Under 21.

And more: Women
Another great news from Qatar is definitely given by the launch of the Qatari Women Futsal National League (14 clubs are likely to take part), which follows the national tournament played in the season 2009/2010. A great step ahead for women futsal in the country, also helped by the appointment of the portuguese coach Paula Rego as head coach of the Women National teams "A" and "U18" (ready to play a tournament in Lebanon). Paula Rego was the first woman coach working in Portugal with men's Team in national divisions, beeing also a Physical Education teacher.
The women national team is currently managed like a club, working all weeks and taking part in the national league (though their results are not taken in consideration in the final standing). We have anyway to remind that women futsal in Qatar is not directly managed by the QFA but under the Woman Sports Committee.

Schools, courses, workshops: development is the key
The Francisco Batista's (counting on a Phd in Sports Science and Master in Sports Management, autor of many Sports Strategic plans like the one in Coimbra) staff is also focused on the schools, where a lot of players, games and tournament are watched during the season, in order to find new players for the Under 18 selection and to spread the futsal word between young guys.

Also, the QFA is going to organize coaching courses and workshops to increase the knowledge of the sport between qatari people. Last but not least, in April will be launched Futsal National Academy destinated to 10-16 years old players.

É uma honra puder dizer que fui treinado pela Paula Rego e pelo Mister Batista, com os quais aprendi bastante e estou deveras agradecido!
